Midnight Madness Sketch Challenge #4

MMSC just keeps getting better, check out their latest prize of money!

Anyway, here's my take on the weekly challenge. I'm not 100% satisfied - I think I should have put one more layer of patterned paper under everything, it looks a bit bland like this. Oh well, too late now!

I made the frame from Fimo polyclay and stamped it over with Distress ink Vintage Photo before baking it - then after baking I coated it with glossy varnish. The flowers also have some Vintage Photo on them + glossy varnish. The photo in the frame is a vintage piece printed from the computer. The background is made with Distress inks, Fired Brick and Vintage Photo, over a cream colored card, sprinkled with water and stamped over with water moistened acrylic stamp.

Ink: printer ink, Distress Ink Vintage Photo and Fired Brick

And one more for this evening!

At the Greeting Farm there's a black and white challenge with a sketch, and here's my entry:

Black and white was tough, but I think this 50's couple goes really well in a monochrome card :) They were fun to color too! I used watercolor pencils in 2 shades of gray and black for the coloring. The "Swing" is actually from the Wild Things -set. The b&w paper is a freebie from the wonderful Summer Driggs, from the Angel Mother -set - I just printed it in gray scale. Oh, and note the girl, she has some white Sakura Gel on her eye makeup :D

I continued the sketch to the inside too. Note the lovely ribbon - it is actually cut away from a top: you know those wide neck ones that have long loops attached so they can be hanged in the store without stretching...

2 Sketches 4 You Ultimate Card Showdown #2, week 1

My second card is vintage inspired, and I really like how it turned out! The image is vintage photo printed from the computer, metal brads are again from Denise and the purple band is recycled gift wrapping ribbon. I continued the sketch inside the card too.

Stamp: Scrappy Cat flourishes
Ink: Distress ink Vintage Photo, VersaColor Burgundy
Coloring: Marvy Le Plume II no. 64 Plum
Other: Recycled gift ribbon, metal brads, pattern scissors
Paper: 12x12 scrapbooking paperstock from a local dollar-store, vanilla colored card stock

2 Sketches 4 You Ultimate Card Showdown #1, week 1

I made two cards for this challenge, and here's the first.

This is a very plain card material wise - I used no fancy papers. The purple paper is origami paper, and white inlay is plain watercolor paper. I sponged the edges and the patterned strip with purple acrylic paint - oh and can you notice I picked up a pair of pattern scissors? The two layers I stitched together by hand, bookbinding type thing. I am planning to write to the inlay, so that's why it is mostly just plain white. The brads I used were from Denise's blog candy lot and the sentiment means "For a friend" in Finnish, handwritten.

Sny... Eiku...

Tarja,

se tuli!

Nyt menen avaamaan :) Oli vaan pakko raportoida heti laatikolta palattuani :)

*edit*

Olenkin kaipaillut kaunista ja isoa projektikassia itselleni - Novitan julkaisun aikaan lahjana jaettu nyöripussi on ruman tummansininen, eikä nyöriratkaisu oikein miellytä minua muutenkaan. Kyllä mua ensi viikolla neuletapaamisessa kadehditaan :D

~*~*~*~

Short recap in English: I received the final revealing package from my Finnish Secret Knitting Pal - you see that wonderful cat themed quilt bag? My friend made it herself! I have such a huge respect to quilters, and I never thought to own something this lovely :)

Stash buster!

I had a huge stroke of luck and won in Denise's blog candy, and here's what the post boy delivered yesterday:

I think my stash just tripled in size! The Basic Gray -paperpad is just fab + the coordinating brads, but how do I dare to use such fancy stuff? Newbie-problem, huh... "I got this really COOL thing, but I just save it and look at it, 'cause it's so COOL!" Note that I have some sock yarn in the same tradition... *snicker*

Dear Denise also owns WhimsyStamps -online stamping store :)

Anyway, the Stampin' Up -butterfly kit is marvelous - it took me a while to realize how great it is though. When I was assembling it, I figured the layering options, and here's what I stamped just to try them out (clicky on the picture to be able to zoom in):

Subsequent colors are shown above - the background layer is stamped with the Marvy Le Plumes and the top layer with Distress inks. Now I just need to cut them out (ouch...) :)

Thank you Denise! <3

Eat Cake Graphics (totally unpaid commercial)

I found a stamp site with the cutest cat stamps I've ever seen!

Eat Cake Graphics

Now friends, feel free to order me the whole collection! Mmm-kay?

And seriously, their text stamps are hilarious too... :D

Sny-postia odotellessa...

Swirly

Allsorts Challenge Blog called for "curly swirly"... What can I say, I LOVE swirls and curls, and have to restrain myself not to use them too much. This is a purely monochrome card, as the stamped image and the swirls themselves are beautiful without any colorful additions.

Black Bird

Double challenge entry again.

The layout sketch is from Polka Doodle challenge blog

and the theme ("sad flowers") from Corrosive Challenge blog.

As I don't have a proper ink pad for dark backgrounds, I diluted a bit of white acrylic paint to stamp the images :)

ROAR!

For Simon Says Challenge the subject was "Animals!". This week I received my The Greeting Farm's Wild Things set - which I had to get just because of that wonderful lion and the "Roar"... Isn't she just the cutest thing... I stamped her twice and layered her hair.

Sny-odotusta...

Onneksi kusti polkee huomennakin...

Springtime Swirl Shawl finished

I never guessed how long it takes to make a sideways knit border to a circular shawl... I think I spent about 2 weeks (evenings that is) in that never-ending task! But all things come to an end, and after some serious blocking on our bed, may I present:
Pattern: Springtime Swirl Shawl by Kristel Nyberg
Yarn: Titan Wool Merino (1400m/100g), consumption 87g
Needles: Addi Turbo Lace 3.75mm
Size: about 140cm
